USANA Success Story: Dreams of former oil refinery operator come true

After nearly 10 years working as an oil refinery operator, Rick learned that the big-name company he worked for was downsizing and shutting the refinery down. Although a disappointment, Rick knew not to keep all his eggs in one basket. Two years prior to the refinery shutting down he had an opportunity to open franchises in the fast food industry. Together, Rick and Terri Young owned three fast food franchises that made it possible for their family to stay in their home town and not have to leave like other refinery workers.

Financially the couple was doing well, but now Rick was on the road all the time and they had no time freedom. After learning about the USANA opportunity, they started building their USANA business. In only six months of sharing USANA part time, Rick and Terri were making more income with USANA than they ever thought possible.

Now, Rick and Terri’s 5,500-square-foot home that they built themselves sits on the border of an 18-hole golf course in eastern Utah. Whether Rick and Terri are coaching soccer, or driving their children to dance, baseball, snowboarding, wrestling, drama, music lessons, basketball, or school and church activities, they are living the dream and loving it. “I value my family more than anything,” Rick says. “My goal is to see them be the best they can be.”

And because they work from home, “Basically, we get to do whatever we want,” Rick says. So every day is designed around the convenience of the family. And most of the time their enjoyment comes from anything that involves the outdoors. The family pond, just yards from the front door of the house, is overlooked by an enormous tree with a rope swing attached. Rick admits to spending just about as much time on the swing as any of his kids and jokes, “I want to be their best friend.” In the summer, everyone in the neighborhood can be found hanging out there. The Youngs have even parked their camp trailer on the edge of the pond at times so they can keep food, dry towels, and a place to change nearby.

The pond is just one of the many things the family loves about living on their 17 acres. “I love it out here,” Rick says. “There’s always so much to do.” The family also owns a 115-acre ranch about ten minutes away from their home that borders a lake, so they are constantly surrounded by recreational opportunities. And whether they are horseback riding, four wheeling, jet skiing, boating, or riding motorcycles, it is clear that their love of the outdoors is only fueled by their lifestyle. “With this additional property and our 30 horses, it’s great seeing some of our dreams come true,” Rick exclaims.

Years of hard work combined with determination and a will to succeed have led the Youngs to appreciate every opportunity that comes their way. “Terri and I don’t have to look any further,” Rick concludes. “Our dreams have come true.”
